I have seen a few shows on ornithology including Birds of Paradise.  Paul Igag's contribution to our understanding of these birds cannot be overstated. His death is a tremendous loss for all that love nature.

I just finished watching "Birds of the Gods" on PBS this evening and saw the memorial to Paul at the end and was so saddened upon reading it. What an impact he made in the field of ornithology and what an inspiration he was and will continue to be. His legacy will live on. He is a kindred spirit and will never be forgotten. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and love of birds!

As per many guests before me, I am aware of you through the PBS documentary "Birds of the Gods."  Your work will always be remembered and your legacy will live on and on....... I feel you flying and free with your birds now and forever. Thank you for all that you have done.

We saw Paul on the PBS special aired in Novemeber done by David Attenborough.  I actually cried when I saw at the end of the film that he had passed from this life where he touched so many people, including us so very far away in Colorado, USA.  He is remembered.

08-25-2013 10:11 PM -- By: Susanna Ladowska,  From: Denver, Colorado USA

How wonderful to know that one day Paul will have the joy of waking up in a beautiful Paradisaic earth filled with the glorious birds of paradise he so loved (Psalm 37:29)!

08-25-2013 3:48 PM -- By: Susan Curtis,  From: Steinhatchee, FL, USA

I just watched David Attenborough's Nature program on the Birds of Paradise and was so sad to see that Paul passed away soon after the filming. A man in his forties passing away is always a sad event; but a scientist in a third world country who had such a positive impact on trying to protect all of these terribly endangered and mightily magnificent birds, that is a tragedy. I am so sorry for his loved ones and for PNG.

Please know that Paul Igag lit up the screen.  His infectious love and deep knowledge touched my heart when I first saw him on The Nature program about the BOP..his death was a blow to the world, and to the birds.  He was a keeper of their secrets and a lover of life.  I did not know him, but what he imparted to me through the television is something I will never forget.  May God bless and keep his family and thank you for sharing him with the world.  Most Sincerely, Melissa Cicio

Thank you Paul for sharing your knowledge and passion for these rare creatures. The special 'Nature' program recently aired on PBS touched me, as your kind soul and concern for the research and preservation of these amazing animals shone through.

08-21-2013 10:23 PM -- By: Sita Flaig,  From: New York,USA

I just finished watching on PBS the film "Birds of the Gods", I was so enthralled I couldn't stop watching it.  Not only were the birds attractive in so many ways, so was Paul whose warmth and good nature showed through throughout the film, so I was really shocked and saddened that at the end their was the memorial tribute to his life.  He seemed like the kind of person I would've liked to have met and befriended.  Although his life seems to have been cut short, he certainly had a very important and widespread effect.

I hope Paul is with the spirits of all the birds he worked to save.

08-21-2013 10:16 PM -- By: Cathie ,  From: Texas, USA

I just by chance caught the tail end of "Birds of the Gods" and as a bird lover look forward to seeing it in its entirety. I noticed at the end a tribute to Paul Agag, which led me to read about him online and ended up at this page. My sincere condolences to his loved ones.  My Mother and I love birds.  We have watched many films about birds so when I found "Birds of the Gods" we sat down and watched it together. We were both saddened to hear of Paul's death.

Thanks for the information on this page that helped with my research. Paul's memory will live on in the minds of young Papua New Guineans who wish to follow his footsteps in studing ornithology. To his family, my sincere condolences as his death anniversary approaches.

I chose to do my research on Paul Igag, as a science project given to me by my school (POMIS) to research on a PNG scientist. Thanks for the information. It is helpful.
